Black is the new black ... when it comes to tea

This year has seen a huge rise in people asking if I sell Black Teas … and sales of my Blue Lady Tea (an Earl Grey blend) went up. So I spent some time experimenting with different black teas and blends. Being in London earlier in the year helped, as there was a huge choice of quality teas readily available to buy and enjoy.

Black tea has been shown to have many health benefits, and its popularity over the centuries, particularly here in England is testament to that. The caffeine content means it is a mental stimulant and it is also possibly effective in reducing the risk of heart attacks, kidney stones, Parkinson's disease and ovarian cancer. It is full of antioxidants and may help with diabetes, oral health, obesity, stress, asthma, heart health, kidney stones and lowering cholesterol …. The list goes on

So I have produced three “Limited Edition” Black Tea blends for the coming celebration of Samhain (or Halloween) …. A time to sit with a cuppa and reflect on the end of summer and the coming of winter, to appreciate the harvest and nature's bounty of fruits and remember lost souls … The good news is that not only are all delicious drunk as tea, they also work well infused in Gin …… what is there not to like! All available in my etsy shop

“Samhain Special Brew” is a blend of Ceylon tea, a natural orange colour and flavour, with Safflower petals, Rosehips, Oak Bark and Orange Peel. All the colours of Samhain.

Safflower Tea is popular in Asia due to its high concentration of antioxidants and ability to reduce cholesterol. It has a warm chocolatey taste. Rosehips are full of vitamin C, Oak Bark has been used historically for bronchitis, colds and throat infections and the Orange Peel gives a fruity, citrus finish

“Midnight Rose” is a darker, stronger brew of quality Assam black tea, which has a naturally dark red colour an deep malty taste, blended with sweet red Rose Petals and a sprinkle of magical Mugwort. Rose petals have a sweet floral taste and are full of vitamin C and Mugwort has long been revered as a dream herb, due to its mild sedative effects. There is only a light sprinkle in this blend.

“Dark Heart” has an Earl Grey base, with its smoky, citrus flavour, blended with Iranian Borage flowers, Blue Mallow and Rose Petals. Borage Flower tea, Gol Gav Zaban, is popular in Iran for it’s honey like taste and is used for colds, coughs and bronchitis as well as calming the nerves. Blue Mallow flowers are ant-bacterial and have been traditionally used for respiratory and stomach problems
